Letter From The Editor Dear Colleagues, Welcome to the Spirituality in Higher Education Newsletter, which presents articles that address recent news and expand academic dialogue concerning the research and practice of spirituality in higher education. Our intent is not only to inform and stimulate discussion, but also to connect colleagues who are interested in this topic. This Newsletter is part of a larger longitudinal research project funded by The John Templeton Foundation, entitled Spirituality in Higher Education: A National Study of College Students' Search for Meaning and Purpose. Housed at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) in UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, the project explores a range of questions, including: | • | What is the level of intensity of spiritual experiences among today’s college students? | | • | How do college and university faculty view the connection between spirituality and higher education? | | • | What are colleges and universities doing to facilitate or inhibit students’ spiritual development? | | • | How are spiritual teaching and behavior changing on campuses? | | • | What does this mean for higher education institutions and their students? | To keep informed about the project, please visit our website www.spirituality.ucla.edu where we post research findings, news, and recent publications. Newsletter editions are distributed electronically on a quarterly basis throughout the year and feature various topics relating to the study of spirituality – including health, leadership, the arts, diversity, and education, among others. To join the newsletter mailing list, please contact spiritualitynewsletter@gseis.ucla.edu. We also encourage any reactions, comments, questions, or suggestions of topics for future newsletter issues. Many individuals have collaborated and contributed to the creation of this Newsletter. The previous Newsletter editors – Kyle Stewart McJunkin, Shannon Calderone, and Estella Gutierrez-Zamano – have helped in the development and dissemination of many engaging editions. The members of the Spirituality in Higher Education project team also work diligently through continued research and scholarship in this field. The content of each edition is based on the continued contributions of many talented professionals who share their insight, experience, and awareness with our growing number of readers. Thank you all for your support and interest in our Newsletter. Best regards, Leslie M.
